Microsoft plans to rename its cloud operating system "Windows Azure" to "Microsoft Azure" this week, according to experts.
The change is expected to take effect on April 3, the second day of Microsoft in San Francisco, according to people familiar with Microsoft's plans.
The rebranding makes sense, since Windows Azure isn't just about Windows. Azure customers can run Linux in virtual machines with that operating system. Azure users can also host Oracle databases and middleware and use non-Windows development tools like Java, Ruby, PHP, and Python.
