Dallas Miller is not a prostitute – but you would have thought otherwise if you had seen what an ad circulating online over the weekend said:
Dallas Miller, 21, told ABC affiliate WKRN.comthat she did not create or post the ad online, but she said several of the photos on her Facebook page are used in prostitution ads on Backpage.com.
“It was really hard,” said Dallas Miller, who lives in Whites Creek, Tennessee. “I feel like a victim.”
Backpage.com has already removed the specific ads from its site.
When Miller's story first went viral this week, many netizens expressed their support for the young woman. Others said Miller's experience should be a wake-up call for anyone who doesn't take their online safety seriously.
This whole story could be easily avoided if those who use social networks set up their accounts in such a way that they don't give access to just anyone, except to people they trust. But in general, we should be very careful with the information we share online.
