The Vietnamese government has taken a serious step to silence freedom of speech on the Internet, imposing a fine of approximately 3,500 euros on any citizen who criticizes on social networks .
Furthermore, some categories of comments are classified as criminal offenses and can even land the author in prison.
Even if someone's comments do not constitute a criminal offense, they can be fined if they are characterized as anti-government propaganda or reactionary ideology.
This development follows a decree from last September, which stipulates that blogs and profiles belonging to individuals and businesses must contain personal information only.
The decree essentially prohibited the expression and exchange of opinions related to current events on Facebook , Twitter and other social networks.
