The AYANEO Pocket S2 is the first device to feature the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chipset, which is designed to deliver the ideal combination of performance and power efficiency. It is the most powerful of the three gaming-oriented SoCs announced earlier this year. Early testing of the more affordable G1 Gen 2 model, such as the Retroid Pocket Classic, has shown that the effort has paid off. The Snapdragon G3 Gen 2, used in previous flagship handheld consoles such as the Pocket ACE, sometimes had compatibility issues with mobile games and demanding emulators, but these are now a thing of the past.

AYANEO has worked directly with Qualcomm to ensure wider compatibility with the G3 Gen 3, even with the latest third-party Turnip drivers. The company claims that the compatibility reaches the level of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while new "deception" software can make games think the device has the Snapdragon 8 Elite, thus unlocking higher graphics settings.

This chipset powers a new 6.3-inch 1440p IPS display, with higher peak brightness and better color rendition than its predecessor. However, it's limited to 60Hz, so you won't get super-high framerates or black frame insertion for retro games via emulation.

The other major upgrade is the battery, which now reaches an impressive 8,000mAh. This is the largest capacity we have ever seen in a portable device of this size and, combined with the new efficient chip, is expected to offer excellent autonomy.

The base model also supports 40W charging via Power Delivery, allowing for super-fast recharging. It also features bypass charging, as well as an option to limit maximum charging to preserve battery health over time.
