1Password: Launches recovery codes and simple login process

The popular password manager app, 1Password, today announced the release of two new features designed to make the user experience easier.

1Password improves the sign-in process on new devices and adds the ability to recover your account if you lose your master password and secret key.

With the new password recovery feature, 1Password provides a backup means that allows customers to regain access to their accounts, even if the password is lost.

1Password already provides an emergency kit in PDF format, which includes a secret key, and users are instructed to keep this key safe. The secret key allows access to a 1Password account if the master password is unavailable. Until now, if both the secret key and the master password, there was no way to recover the account.

1Password users can now create a recovery code, which allows them to regain access to an account. The company recommends that customers follow the recovery code creation process immediately, as it is not possible to create one after a user has been locked out of a 1Password account.

Once generated, the recovery code can be used at any time to regain access to a 1Password account. However, users will need access to the email associated with their account.

You can create a recovery code by going to Account Management, selecting “Sign in” and recovery, and then selecting “Set recovery code.” 1Password recommends storing your recovery codes in a safe and accessible place.

1Password is testing a revamped login experience in beta, with the new method aimed at making it easier to sign in to a new device or browser. When signing in to a new environment, users can now select the “Scan QR Code” option from the account menu in the top left of 1Password and scan a QR code on the new device to sign in.

The new login option is available in the beta and nightly channels of 1Password for desktop and in TestFlight for iOS. Recovery codes are available to all 1Password users.
