Microsoft is offering upgraded Snipping for Windows 11. The new feature brings improvements and changes to the Snipping Tool, including the ability to extract text from screenshots taken with the toolin Windows 11.

Starting with version 11.2308.33.0, the Snipping Tool app also features OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology that enables new features, including the ability to hide text before sharing a screenshot and copy text from a screenshot to the clipboard.

Extract text from images in Windows 11 via Snipping Tool
To extract text from screenshots taken by Snipping Tool, follow these steps:
- Open the Snipping Tool in Windows 11.
- Click the Snip.
- Click the New.
- Select the snapshot mode.
- Capture screenshot in Windows 11.
- Select the text, right-click and select “Copy Text”.
- (Optional) Click the “Text Actions” and select the “Copy All Text” to extract all the text from the screenshot.
