Revealed in a new trailer that focuses on the battle of Scorpion and Sub-Zero to determine the purpose of the Lin Kuei in Liu Kang's new Mortal Kombat universe, the video introduces Smoke, a member of the ancient warrior clan specializing in stealth and practical magic. With deep ties to Scorpion and Sub-Zero, Smoke has taken the clan's mission as his own and joins the Lin Kuei brothers to defend Earthrealm. The trailer also offers a first look at Rain, the High Mage of Outworld, who has perfected the art of water magic into a wild weapon and now hopes to learn the darkest and most powerful magic of the realm. Additionally, Sektor, Cyrax, Frost and Scorpion appear in the video as new Kameo Fighters, providing a wide range of moves and support abilities during the fights.

Watch the trailer below.
Smoke
The return of Smoke marks the character's first appearance on the roster after a decade. In the 2011 reboot, Smoke was redefined as Tomas Vrbada, a Czech member of the Lin Kuei who gained his powers from an encounter with a monster called enenra. It appears that he returned to this role in Mortal Kombat 1, fighting alongside Sub-Zero and Scorpion. It is also worth noting that the Lin Kuei trailer, together with the character bios on the official MK1 website, seems to confirm that the version of Scorpion in MK1 is not our old friend Hanzo Hasashi. Instead’, Scorpion is now the codename of Kuai Liang, the second Sub-Zero and Smoke's best friend.
Rain
Rain is a bit deeper. Starting out as one of the small army of ninjas who changed the palette in the Mortal Kombat Trilogy (1995), Rain was eventually reimagined as a rebel prince from Edenia, one of the other dimensions incorporated into Outworld. Due to being the illegitimate son of the god Argus, Rain has the ability to control water. He was previously a DLC character for MK9 and MK11, and appeared as an antagonist in the story mode of MKX.
