Microsoft's recent update to the HoloLens 2 makes it easier for users to connect and collaborate with other colleagues. One of the biggest changes is the HoloLens 2's full integration with Microsoft Teams, so users no longer have to rely on a computer or phone to join meetings. The headset has technically been able to make and receive video calls for years, but its collaboration capabilities have been limited.

Microsoft's new update gives HoloLens 2 owners the ability to display a holographic window layout with Teams calls, chats, and calendars . Additionally, with OneDrive integration , viewers will have access to their cloud-based folders, and will be able to view Word, PDFs , and videos shared during video calls. documents

Microsoft Teams is a powerful collaboration tool that is revolutionizing the way businesses communicate and collaborate. It is an platform that combines messaging, file storage, video conferencing, and more into one secure package. The full integration with HoloLens 2 is a big plus.
Microsoft also combined two Dynamics 365 mixed reality apps: the Dynamics 365 Guides app that provides step-by-step holographic instructions to users, and the Dynamics 365 Remote Assist that lets frontline workers show their colleagues what they see in the field. The company said the combined app was a request from Toyota, which has been providing feedback on the headset since 2016.

David Kleiner, who heads Toyota North America’s Applied Technology & Research Lab, said giving frontline workers laptops isn’t particularly helpful because they’re not sitting in desks all day. He explained that using a device they can wear and access all the tools they need would be much more practical. “Someone can grab a HoloLens, start a Guides session, and essentially have someone in their head showing them what to do,” Kleiner said. “If they need help, they can call an expert right from the app.”

Microsoft has announced that it will release a successor to its current HoloLens headset. The news comes after reports earlier this year that Microsoft had scrapped its plans for the HoloLens 3, leading many to believe that the device would be discontinued.

Microsoft has denied reports of HoloLens being discontinued, saying the headset is "a critical part of the company's plans for emerging categories like mixed reality and the metaverse."
Microsoft says it plans to improve the HoloLens' display, tracking, sensors, and battery life in a future update. Microsoft is also testing a special version of the headset with the U.S. military. Those tests have reportedly not gone well, with soldiers complaining of headaches, nausea, and eye strain.
