Twitter: Investigation into illegal bedrooms in offices

San Francisco officials are investigating a complaint against Twitterthat the company violated building codes by converting part of its offices into bedrooms for its employees. The investigation was prompted by a report detailing how employees returned to the office on Monday to find bedrooms in the space where workspaces .

Twitter: Investigation into illegal bedrooms in officesAccording to a source at the agency, the beds are likely for employees who chose to stay with the company, following the ultimatum given by CEO Elon Musk to workers: “Commit to 'hardcore Twitter' or you will be fired.”

“It’s not a good picture,” they said. “It’s another unspeakable sign of disrespect. There’s no discussion. The beds just showed up.”

The complaint was submitted to the city's 311 service, via Twitter.

People on Twitter estimated that there are about four to eight bedrooms per floor that feature “mattresses, monochrome curtains and giant presentation screens,” Forbes reported, as well as “bright orange carpeting.”

The BBC has reportedly obtained photos of illegal bedrooms at Twitter's headquarters . A former employee said Elon Musk has routinely slept in the office since taking control of the company in late October. Since then, half of the staff has been laid off, while many others have chosen to leave on their own initiative.

The San Francisco Department of Building Inspection will inspect 1355 Market St. for possible code violations, the San Francisco Chronicle.

“We need to make sure the building is being used as intended. There are different building code requirements for residential buildings, including those used for short-term stays. These codes ensure that people are using the spaces safely ,” said Patrick Hannan, a spokesman for the inspection agency.

Musk appeared to confirm the validity of the complaint, taking aim at San Francisco Mayor London Breed for her scrutiny of company . In response to a tweet about the investigation, Elon Musk asked Breed where the city's priorities lie, citing a report about a 10-month-old baby who nearly died from a fentanyl overdose.

The existence of bedrooms in Twitter's offices may be true if we consider a photo of Esther Crawford, Twitter's director of product management, which was published in early November, after Musk took over the company. The photo showed the executive sleeping on the floor of her office.

“When your team is under 24/7 pressure to meet deadlines, sometimes you sleep where you work #SleepWhereYouWork,” he wrote.

After the post sparked some alarming reactions on social media, Crawford followed up with a series of tweets.

One of the Twitter sources who spoke to Forbes said that employees are already working late to meet Musk's expectations.

“People are already staying up late, so it makes sense to a certain extent,” the source said.

It seems that Elon Musk's decisions and actions regarding Twitter will continue to concern us for a long time.
