Until now, Mozilla couldn't bring its browser to the Microsoft Store because Redmond's store policies required all browsers submitted for inclusion to use the engine provided by Windows.
"Previously, if you were using Windows and wanted to use Firefox, you had to download it from the internet and go through a difficult process from Microsoft," Mozilla said.
«Now that Microsoft has changed its Store policies, choosing Firefox as your desktop browser is even more seamless and comes with all the latest Firefox features.»

Firefox provides Windows users with an alternative to Chromium -based web browsers , as it is the first in the Microsoft Store to use its own open-source Gecko browser engine.

Using its own engine, Mozilla takes full control of the user experience and brings privacy-enhancing features like Total Cookie Protection, Enhanced Tracking Protection, Site Isolation, and DNS over HTTPS.
Firefox also features fast rendering and loading of websites via WebRender and Quantum CSS and allows users to take control of video streaming with Multi Picture-in-Picture.
"This wasn't just bad for you, it was bad for the web, because it meant the web on Windows 11 would only have the features that Microsoft was willing to provide," Mozilla added.
«People deserve to have choice, and we're glad there's an easier option to download Firefox on Windows.»
