Windows 10: How to password protect apps?

If you are using a computer that is shared with other people, you may want to keep some data private. If you want to protect specific apps , you can do so using a password Windows 10 . In this process, a third-party application will help you .

One such app is My Lockbox, which provides a free and a paid version.

However, there are some limitations. Free software does not always offer complete security. Almost all free software comes with bloatware, which is usually not malicious. However, even if it is not malicious, it consumes disk space, which in turn can slow down the computer.

My Lockbox does a good job protecting password- folders (and the apps inside those folders) and preventing unauthorized users. However, if someone is logged in with an administrator account, they can still access the locked folders. While it's not the easiest thing to do, it's possible.

Application protection in Windows 10

First, you need to download and install My Lockbox by going to the “My Lockbox” page on the FSPro Labs site. Click the “Download” button.

After downloading, double-click on the “mylockbox_setup” icon. This will launch the My Lockbox installation wizard.

The installation process will begin. The first two windows will ask you to select a language and accept the License Agreement. Next, you will be asked to select a folder to install My Lockbox. By default, it goes to C:\Program Files\My Lockbox. If you want to change the location, click “Browse” and then select the place where you want to install My Lockbox. Otherwise, click “Next”.

(To install My Lockbox, at least 9 MB of free disk space is required.)

Continue through the wizard and, at the end, click “Install.” The installation will only take a few seconds.

Once installed, double-click the application to open it.

First, you will be asked to add a password. Use a strong password and re-enter it to confirm it.

Click “OK” to continue.

You will then be asked to select the folder you want to protect. Essentially, you are selecting the folders that contain the applications you want to protect. If you lock the folder that contains the application, you will not be able to open it, even if you try to access it from the start menu or the desktop shortcut.

Click “Browse” to open File Explorer.

Navigate to the folder containing the application you want to lock, click to select it, and press “OK”.

Confirm the file in the “Folder to Protect” box, then click “OK.”

You will no longer have access when you try to open the app.

To open it, launch My Lockbox and enter the password .Click “OK”.

The contents of the locked folder will now appear in the “My Lockbox File Browser”.

You will have access to your apps until you re-enable protection . Tap “Enable Protection” in the top right corner of the My Lockbox app to re-lock the folder.
