Recently, the Foundation announced the development of a new certification, which will be the initial part of the LFCS (Linux Foundation Certified Sysadmin) and LFCE (Linux Foundation Certified Engineer) certifications. According to the announcement, the new certification is designed specifically for users who are just starting to use Linux systems.
Its main purpose is to demonstrate the user's basic knowledge of systems administration. However, today we live in a world where technology is developing daily and new systems are being created constantly. Therefore, to get this certification, the user must necessarily have knowledge of many of the basic systems that are based on Linux.
Below is a list of some of the topics covered by the new certification:
- Basic steps in the system.
- System management.
- Cloud services.
- Basic knowledge of security.
- Collaboration with other administrators.
An example of the above topics is user management, as well as creating/changing their data. Of course, during their examination, candidates will also have to answer more advanced questions.

However, because the certification is aimed at entry-level users, users only need to pass one exam. This means that if you are already a Linux user, it won't take you long to earn it.
Currently, the organization provides certifications, following the following:
Basic Steps in Linux (LFS101) – Courses
Basic Steps in Systems Management (LFS201) – Courses
Basic Systems Administrator Certification (LFCS) – Certification
Linux Network Administration (LFS211) – Courses
Engineer Certification (LFCE) – Certification
The new LFCA certification is designed to sit between the LFS101 and LFS201 courses, so candidates will have a basic certification if they stop taking their courses for any reason.
Additionally, according to the organization, the number of engineering candidates has increased significantly due to the global pandemic. This happened because many of the users decided to take courses during the lockdown.
Therefore, even if they decide to drop out of the courses, candidates will have at least a basic certification.
