Two months after launching an open rebranding for the Foundation's new logo, Mozilla has narrowed the number of choices to seven nominations.
By open branding, Mozilla did not mean user participation, but they stated that the logo selection should come, as much as possible, from its users and not from a senior executive in the San Francisco office.
All seven logo candidates were from UK-based design firm Johnson Banks, which has previously worked with Virgin and the Guggenheim Museum.
Each logo candidate is unique in its own right and gives users good alternatives to choose their favorite. The logos also have unique names: The Eye, The Connector, The Open Button, Protocol, Wireframe World, The Impossible M, and Flik Flak.

Unfortunately, the design community wasn't impressed, according to information provided to Designer News, a website where designers and developers meet to share their opinions and more.
Criticism aside, the favorites seem to be The Connector and Protocol.
The next step for Mozilla is to narrow down the seven candidates to just three, which will receive further refinements and be introduced into a round of consumer testing and a round of live reviews, which will take place in mid-September. The Foundation hopes to have a final decision by the end of September.
