A new version of the Universal Forensic Extraction Device (UFED) system has been announced by Cellebrite, which the company claims can unlock any iPhone, iPad, and Android.
The Israel-based forensics firm has created UFED Premium, with the aim of helping law enforcement agencies unlock iPhone and Android devices so they can access data on locked smartphones.
The new system developed by Cellebrite can be purchased directly by the competent authorities and directly give them the ability to conduct research on a device and gain access to the files they want.
With the help of the system, police will be able to access third-party app data, chats, saved emails and attachments, deleted content, and more. If the company's claims are true, the service could potentially hack any of the 1.4 billion active iDevices on the market.
UFED Premium can access iPhones and iPads running iOS 7 to iOS 12.3. It can also access Android devices such as Samsung Galaxy S6, S7, S8, S9 and smartphones from Motorola, Huawei, LG and Xiaomi.
According to Cellebrite, it is the only one that can unlock a range of smartphones compared to any other company in this field. Another device that has been talked about is the GrayKey, which is another gadget that can be used to unlock Apple devices.
It is worth noting that Cellebrite is the company that helped police extract data from Syed Rizwan Farook's iPhone 5c at the time of the San Bernardino attack in December 2015.
