In a recent announcement, Apple introduced the new watchOS 6, which will include a period tracking application. watchOS 6, which is the software for the Apple Watch, will allow women who have such a watch to note and track their cycle.
This application will be particularly helpful in directly recording the period and the characteristics of each cycle. In this way, it will be possible to know which are the days that could bring a conception or not bring respectively. Also, women who have an Apple Watch will have the ability to receive a warning for a possible start date of the cycle, so that they can stock up on what they may need on those days. Such as, for example, hygiene products and painkillers.
The good news is that this feature is planned to be available on Apple phones and iOS. So, someone who doesn't have an Apple Watch but does have an iPhone can use this app.
Of course, this is not the first time we've seen apps like this. Other period trackers have been created in the past. This is clearly a step towards informing women about what's happening in their bodies.
Obviously, as with anything technological, there are problems here too. In an interview with TechRadar, Leslie Heyer, CEO of Cycle Technologies and creator of the Dot app, said she was concerned that there are many fertility tech apps that are misleading because there is no medical evidence to support what they claim to do.
At the same time, there are concerns from many Apple Watch users who don't want their personal data online. Which doesn't seem unreasonable at all, given that privacy can't be guaranteed when hackers. On the other hand, WWDC presenter Dr. Sumbul Desai said that "all health data is stored securely and you can control your data by choosing what is shared with other apps."
Apple, which refers to menstruation and fertility, contributes to making the functions of the female body no longer "shameful" to discuss, while helping women gain a more informed knowledge of their bodies.
