Tech giant Microsoft announced late last year that it plans to rebuild its least popular browser, Edge, using Google's open source Chromium browser engine
This "rebuild" will allow more devices, including Macs and Windows 7 devices, to use Edge, but also moves it away from Windows 10 so that the browser can be updated as an app rather than as part of the operating system.
While Chromium Edge hasn't yet been released to the public (it's expected to launch in preview, to a select set of users first), more signs are emerging that suggest the semi-public release is near. Earlier this month, some images and information about Chromium Edge were leaked.
Now, however, the download link for an Installer for this particular browser has been released, presented as “MicrosoftEdgeSetup.exe”
However, if you try to install it, you won't be able to, as the installer is only available to Microsoft employees and "Azure Premium" users, according to a blog post.
The rebirth of Edge from a proprietary part of the Windows 10 operating system will certainly be one of the most interesting stories in 2019.
