A bomb threat prompted authorities to evacuate a building housing Facebook Inc (FB.O) in Silicon Valley, but after an hour-long search, police found no suspicious device.
The New York Police Department received an anonymous bomb threat at Facebook's campus in Menlo Park, California, and notified local authorities at 4:30 p.m., a Menlo Park police spokesman said.
Late Tuesday, police said the building was secure.
“The San Mateo County Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit arrived at the scene with specially trained explosive detection dogs, who conducted a search of the building and found no suspicious packages or devices,” they said. “The building is clear and secure.”.
Menlo Park police spokeswoman Nicole Acker said the evacuation was limited to a three-story facility that was not the main building, but a Facebook spokesperson said via email that other buildings on the site were also evacuated.
Everyone was safe, according to Facebook and police.
“We take the safety of our people at Facebook extremely seriously and are pleased that everyone is safe,” said spokeswoman Genevieve Grdina, adding that the company acted quickly to evacuate several buildings.
"We are working closely with local authorities to investigate this threat and monitor the situation further.".
Another Silicon Valley company that has faced a security threat in the recent past was YouTube. In April, a woman opened fire at the company's San Francisco headquarters, injuring three people before turning the gun on herself.
