The data-efficient version of Facebook Messenger, Messenger Lite, now looks more like the original than ever, while still being under 10MB.
Facebook announced on December 5 a set of new features coming to Messenger Lite, a "lighter" version of the classic Messenger.
Before this update, Messenger Lite users could receive GIFs, but they couldn’t actually see them move — they were just static images. Starting this week, GIFs have been transformed into what they’re supposed to be: animated clips! Now, users can send and receive these files without any problems. Facebook recommends using a keyboard like Google’s Gboard to send them to someone you want.
Additionally, almost all of the chat customization features found in the basic version of Messenger are available in this version as well. You can choose the color you like for individual chats, people and groups can get nicknames, and chat emojis can be changed. Additionally, you can now share files, images, videos, and audio files through the app, just like you would in the basic version.
