Call Screening is one of the main features of the Google Pixel 3that most users are eager to try out. However, if you don't have enough money to buy the new model, an XDA developer has found a way to bring Call Screening to your Google Pixel device.
Thanks to XDA top-notch COOLSID8, the Google Assistant can be used on the Google Pixel 2, 2 XL, and Google Pixel, Pixel XL. Aside from the usual bugs, the only problem is that the method requires a rooted device. However, the feature will officially roll out to all Pixel devices soon, as announced at the Google Pixel Event.
If you have a rooted Google Pixel device and want to try this feature right away, you can do so by following these steps:
- Download a root-enabled file explorer from the Google Play Store. For example, FX File Explorer
- Go to /data/data/com.google.android.dialer/shared_prefs in explorer and search for dialer_phenotype_flags.xml
- Search for it
__data_rollout__SpeakEasy.CallScreenOnPixelOneAndTwoRollout__launched__ and change 'false' to 'true'. You can also use the Find feature in your text editor.
- Find __data_rollout__SpeakEasy.OverrideUSLocaleCheckRollout__launched__ and change ' false ' to ' true '. Use the " Find " feature in your text editor if you can't locate it.
- Then search for G__enable_speakeasy_details and change 'false' to 'true'. You can also use the Find in your text editor.
- Search for G__speak_easy_bypass_locale_check and change 'false' to 'true'. You can use the Find in your text editor.
- Find G__speak_easy_enabled and change 'false' to 'true'. Once again, you can use the Find in your text editor.
- Open Settings, go to Apps, and select Phone. Force stop.
- Call Screening is now available in Google Phone's internal settings.
As noted by XDA, the feature may not work on all devices, but it's worth a try.
