Google is constantly working to improve its Chrome browser to ensure the best possible user experience. This time, the company has added a new feature called “Heavy Page Capping” to the Canary build channel, which will notify users when a website is using too much bandwidth.
This new feature spotted by Chromestory is not enabled by default. When enabled manually, users will be notified of “heavy” web pages with a notification in the status bar. An option to pause the page load will also be given.
Chrome's "Heavy Page Capping" feature will be available on all platforms, including Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android. However, the feature may only be useful for websites that allow "pause sub-resource requests."
Users can also set the threshold at which the notification will appear. You can choose from two options – Standard and Low. The Standard option will notify you when bandwidth usage is high, while the Low option sets the threshold for triggering notifications from 1MB.
This is going to be a very useful feature of Chrome for anyone with limited data usage. However, it is still in development and it will be interesting to see whether the feature will eventually make it into the official release or not.
