The name Ocean Cove was leaked in a job posting for a senior CPU microarchitecture position by the company. While Intel is already well behind in terms of 10nm chip production, this could be a significant step forward for the company.
It's worth noting that the core's codename hadn't been revealed until the job posting. The codename reveal comes at an interesting time: Intel has just hired Jim Keller, who is a legend in the Silicon world thanks to his work on AMD and Apple chips.
Intel is already benefiting from the services of former AMD chief Raja Koduri. In recent months, AMD has also challenged Intel with its high-performance, lower-cost Ryzen.
For those who don't know, the Core architecture has been the basis of Intel's chips since 2006. It would be exciting to see what revolutionary things Ocean Cove has to offer.
In case you're wondering when you'll be able to get your hands on Ocean Cove, you'll probably have to wait a while. The Motley Fool's Ashraf Essa predicts that the new core could be used in CPUs that launch after Alder Lake, which is after 2020.
