Microsoft has released a new version of Skype for Android that comes with improvements that expand the calling capabilities of the operating system.
Specifically, with the new update, Skype can make any call on Android as Microsoft wants to turn the application into the most convenient solution for communicating with your contacts.
Things are indeed made easier for the user as they can make calls via Skype by clicking on any phone number they encounter in the browser or in an application.
In addition, the new update introduces stability and reliability improvements.
Over the past two years, Microsoft has made significant improvements to Skype, transforming it from a VoIP solution into a messaging platform that can compete with WhatsApp, Telegram, and others.
To be honest, although Skype is far from being the number one messaging app on mobile devices, it is still one of the most popular choices among users. Notably, the Android version has over 1 billion downloads on the Google Play Store.
What's worrying for Microsoft, however, is that users don't seem to be particularly excited about Skype's transition to a messaging platform.
" Skype used to be great. It made online calls and video calls easy. Then it tried to become a social media platform. It added useless stuff (highlights, chatbots) and hid some really useful features," says one of the hundreds of reviews on the Google Play store.
Those of you who have tried the new version, what do you think about the new features?
