OneDrive: New UI for sharing content on Android and iPhone

Microsoft has begun rolling out a new UI for easier sharing of content via OneDrive for Android and iPhone, as part of the company's plan to offer a unified experience across all supported devices.

The improved content sharing UI is available on both mobile platforms and macOS, with a more modern and simple design that allows users to quickly choose who can access links and edit them. The new feature is part of the latest updates for Android and iOS, which are gradually rolling out to all users worldwide.

In addition to rolling out a new sharing experience across all of its platforms, Microsoft is also making the OneDrive client for Mac part of Office 2016 with Mac Click-to-Run technology. In other words, OneDrive will be installed automatically when you install the Office suite of applications.

Macs will get even more improvements, including better management and editing of synced files. Essentially, OneDrive will open a local file if a copy has already been downloaded, without needing to connect to the cloud, reducing load times.

Additionally, when documents are synced, only the changes you made to the latest version will be transferred to the cloud, which reduces the amount of data transferred while also making the process faster and smoother.

The good news is that Microsoft is promising even more upgrades for OneDrive, with more information on the subject expected to be presented in May at the SharePoint North America Conference.
