Tim Cook: "We will not merge iOS with macOS"

In a recent interview, Apple CEO Tim Cookdenied rumors of merging iOS and macOS software into so-called universal apps.

For those who may not be aware, at the end of last year, news broke that Apple was working on a project called “Marzipan” that would combine iPhone, iPad , and Mac into universal apps that would work the same across all platforms. Specifically, the plan was for iOS apps to run on Apple’s macOS, which lacks native apps.macOS

While this project sounds attractive to many Apple users and developers, Tim Cook denies any rumors, emphasizing that both iOS and MacOs have their own benefits and a merger between them would not offer anything of value to the user.

"Both are incredibly functional. One of the reasons they are incredible is that they do the job they are designed to do perfectly. A potential merger would lead to compromises and modifications that would tear down what we have built," he stressed.

He continued by saying that while such a practice may generate more revenue for the company, at the end of the day, it is not the company's driving force. The primary reason is to create the best possible experience for the Apple user.

Rumors of universal apps likely began when Apple released a controversial iPad ad last November titled “What is a computer?”, suggesting that with the iPad Pro and the latest iOS 11 mobile operating system, a post-PC era may be closer than we think.
