Microsoft has released a preview of the new Office for Mac that allows beta participants to try out the new improvements. Life just got a little easier for those of you who use Word, Excel , PowerPoint, and Outlook to get your work done.
Available to Slow Ring insiders, the new build 16.12.180401 includes new features for Word, Excel, PowerPoint , and Outlook.
First, Microsoft has improved file sharing, with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint now allowing you to open locally synced documents, workbooks, and presentations directly from the cloud. This means that auto-save, sharing, and collaboration features are enabled by default, making it easier for more than one user to work on data at the same time.
You can also more easily enrich your Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents with visuals in Outlook thanks to new capabilities for adding and editing Scalable Vector Graphics (SVGs). This feature is already available on Android, while on iOS, Office users can only edit SVG images inserted into documents.
Changes are also detected in the calendar , as users can click on a meeting or event to see all the details included.
Finally, Outlook offers better scanning of search results. “Have you ever tried to search for a word or name and wished Outlook would highlight the search term in the item list or preview pane? Well, you don’t have to search anymore, it’s a fact,” the company explains.
While these features are currently part of the company's Insider program, they will be available to all Macs very soon. It's also worth noting that some features will only be available to Office 365 subscribers.
