When it comes to security, Microsoft seems to be betting heavily on Windows Defender technology, which it has already integrated into Windows 10, the Edge browser , and other Microsoft products.
The company took another step, bringing the security features it has introduced in Edge to the Google Chrome browser, in the form of an extension called Windows Defender Browser Protection.
Microsoft emphasizes that the extension constantly looks for malicious links as you browse the web and notifies you when it detects something suspicious, as long as it is in its database. For example, when it detects links in phishing emails and websites that trick users into installing malware on their computer.
Google Chrome also has built-in security measures to protect users from unsafe websites and other malicious links. But Microsoft, citing the results of tests conducted by NSS Labs in 2017, claims that Edge offers much better protection than Chrome and Firefox browsers.
Compared to Edge (99%), Chrome offers 87% protection against phishing attacks and Firefox 70%.

In case the extension is preventing you from visiting a website that is safe, you can disable the toggle button “Safeguard against suspicious and malicious sites.” The add-on also includes a link to Microsoft’s privacy statement, because it goes without saying that an extension of this kind should be tracking users’ browsing activities.
