One of the features of Google Chrome is the built-in password manager in the web browser. What takes it to another level is its ties to your Google Account which automatically pushes saved passwords across all your connected devices.
Despite concerns raised about its security aspects, it offers tough competition to many full-featured password managers. One of the reasons is Google's determination to remind users to save their passwords.
Despite the convenience of Chrome's password manager, it doesn't yet include a password export feature. This will change in the near future.
Google is working on a long-awaited Chrome feature that will allow users to download a CSV file containing their username and passwords. The proposal was presented on Google+ by François Beaufort, and the password export feature for the computer is currently in testing.
It will allow users to import Chrome passwords into another password manager. There is currently no information available on the official release of the feature.
How to export Chrome passwords?
You can download a Chrome Dev Channel build for your device.
Once you’re running the Chrome Dev Channel, go to Settings > Password Manager > Export. Now, click on Export Passwords.
Depending on your operating system, you may be prompted to enter your system password.
Similarly, you can click Import to add login credentials from an existing CSV file.
Use the password export option in regular Chrome
You can enable experimental mode by enabling the relevant Chrome flags.
Type chrome://flags in the address bar. Then enable the #passwordexports and #passwordimports flags. After restarting Chrome, do the same as you did for the Dev Channel.
It may seem useful at first. But keep in mind that your passwords are entered in plain text and anyone with access to the file can read them. So, enter what you want and permanently delete the CSV file as soon as possible.
If you want to see your account passwords, there are two places where you can view them.
On the Password Manager screen, click the “eye” button next to a login credential to view your password. Alternatively, if you’re running another web browser, you can visit passwords.google.com where you’ll find your login credentials listed. Click the button to view your password.
