1st Panhellenic Open Technologies Robotics Competition

The 1st Panhellenic Open Technologies Robotics Competition is aimed at groups of students from Primary and Secondary Education schools (Elementary, Middle, High and Vocational High Schools). The Robotics Competition aims to introduce to education hardware and software that opens horizons, encourages students' creativity, does not place barriers to their resourcefulness and initiative and does not promote products of specific companies to students and their families.Robotics Competition

Robotics Competition Theme

The competition concerns the creation of projects (artifacts) using open hardware and software technologies (Open Design, Open Software & Open Hardware), and the production of relevant open educational resources. The topics may include automation projects, lighting-sound, sensors-environment, smart objects, early warning devices, autonomous vehicles, wearables, entertainment applications, health-wellness, laboratory equipment, educational uses and educational applications and IoT applications. (e.g. Open source robotics, openrobothardware, etc.).

Phases of the Competition

1st Phase of the Competition – Design Phase
(Final submission date October 31, 2018)
In this phase, no construction is required, but the design and documentation of the idea on the team's github. (For information about git, see https://git-class.gr/). Participating schools must submit their proposals to the competition website by May 13, 2018. By the end of May, the organizational-scientific committee will select at least the 100 best proposals from all categories of the Competition (Primary - Middle Schools - High Schools - Vocational High Schools) for which the equipment will be funded by sponsorships (Indicatively, the equipment can be Arduino Uno, Raspberry Pi 3 Type B, beagleboard, Dwenguino or any other open technology that is accepted as equivalent).
Examples of project proposals for all levels of education can be found at https://www.raspberrypi.org/education/, https://projects.raspberrypi.org/en/projects, arduino projects .
2nd Phase of the Competition – Implementation Phase
(Completion date April 27, 2019)
In this phase, teams are invited to implement their designs, produce open educational material, document their work on github and create a short video in which they explain how they implemented their project. The documentation, and the presentation of the construction steps, the detailed presentation of all the materials used for the project and the code should be uploaded to a corresponding repository on github and sent to robotics.ellak.gr along with the video that will present and justify the project.
3rd Phase – Evaluation Awarding of the 12 best projects (3 per category)
The organizational – scientific committee will select the 3 best projects per category (according to the evaluation criteria (total 12) (3 projects from Primary Schools – 3 from Middle Schools – 3 from High Schools – 3 from Vocational High Schools) which will be presented at the Open Technologies Robotics Competition to be held at the University of West Attica.

Participation in the Competition

The competition is open to groups of primary and secondary school students.  In the 1st phase of the competition, they must submit  their idea and its documentation by 31/10/2018.  In this phase, no construction is required , but a detailed description of the idea and the open material to be used is required.
In the 2nd Phase of the Competition,  the 100 best proposals will be selected from all categories of the Competition (Primary Schools - Middle Schools - High Schools - Vocational High Schools) which will be invited to implement their projects by April 27, 2019.
The organizational - scientific committee will select the 3 best projects per category (according to the evaluation criteria (total 12) (3 projects from Primary Schools - 3 from Middle Schools - 3 from Vocational High Schools - 3 from Vocational High Schools) which will be presented at the Open Technologies Robotics Competition to be held at the University of West Attica.
