The time of the qualifiers has arrived

The European Cyber Security Challenge is an event that aims to find, attract and promote a new generation of talent in the field of protection and security of information systems and networks.

Greece is participating for the third consecutive year in the major pan-European cybersecurity competition European Cyber ​​Security Challenge 2018 (ECSC '18), which will be held between 15 and 19 October 2018 in London. The competition is an initiative of the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA), which operates as the European Union's centre of expertise in network and information security. The aim is to find, attract and promote a new generation of talent in the field of cybersecurity, through a series of demanding challenges. The countries that participate each year in this competitive challenge are represented by a single team, consisting of ten people, a coach and a judge.European Cyber ​​Security Challenge 2018: Time for the qualifiers

The 1st competition took place in October 2015 in Lucerne, Switzerland, with the participation of 6 teams originating from EU member states and from countries of the European Free Trade Area. In 2016 the competition was held in Germany with the participation of 10 national teams, while last year the event was held in Malaga, Spain, with the participation of 15 teams.

In the digital age, information security is a primary priority worldwide. This is due to the special role information plays in modern society, the economy, production and geopolitical relations. Considering that attacks targeting information are constantly increasing, aiming both at profit and destabilizing key structures, digital security must be ensured and evaluated in every sector and activity, daily. This fact requires better organized structures, larger investments, but mainly suitably trained personnel. Conducting competitions such as the ECSC provides the proper foundation for educating people and especially the youth, who with their knowledge and talent will become the shield of the digital society.

The 2018 ECSC competition 

The responsibility for the Greek participation in the competition is once again borne by the Department of Digital Systems of the University of Piraeus. Led by the Department's Associate Professor Mr. Christos Xenakis, a specialized team of volunteers involved in the field of cybersecurity will prepare the Greek participation for the pan-European ECSC 2018 competition, aiming for a high distinction. The National Cybersecurity Team that will represent our country at ECSC 2018 will consist of 10 young men and women between 14-25 years of age who will stand out with their performance in the EthiHak 2018 competition which will take place on 18-19 April 2018, at the Dais exhibition center as part of the 8th Infocom Security conference.

Cyber ​​Security

This year's EthiHak will essentially function as a qualifying competition for the establishment of this year's national team within the framework of ECSC 2018. competition This is the largest live-hacking experience that has become an institution and aims to inform and train participants in modern threats, security gaps and the means used by hackers to bypass security systems. Young people between 14 and 25 years old from any corner of Greece can apply to participate in the National Cybersecurity Team. Professionals and non-professionals, hackers, security researchers, but also ordinary fans will have the opportunity to compete against multiple live targets, testing their skills. Even if someone is unable to travel to Athens on the specific dates, they can participate in the qualifying competition online.
