iPhone 2019: Apple plans to create an iPhone with a rear-facing 3D camera sensor, which will further enhance the AR capabilities of its flagship.
While Apple has already integrated 3D detection cameras into the iPhone X, the company plans to invest much more in the device's AR functions, building an iPhone in which the camera base is located on the rear side.
Sources report that Apple is already experimenting with the new sensor, which will calculate the time the laser needs to detect objects and create a three-dimensional image of the environment. Something completely opposite to the iPhone X Face ID which uses a structured lighting system for facial detection.
The reason Apple is considering this specific feature is because it relies on an advanced sensor, while the current model used in the iPhone X requires the laser to be placed with great precision. This means the company will be able to manufacture the new system faster and with a higher performance rate, thus reducing the likelihood of delays in the production of the iPhone 2019.
Apparently, Apple has already begun researching the partner that will help it with this project, and among others we find: Infineon Technologies, Sony, Panasonic and STMicroelectronics NV.
The AR function is now a priority for Apple and its goal has always been to lead this sector.
Obviously, it is still early for the giant to know how the work on the new 3D sensor will continue, and of course there is always the possibility of abandoning the idea if everything does not go according to plan.
We'll see then…
