Windows 10 Failure on Steam – Gamers Return to Windows 7

Microsoft released the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update on October 17th, but it ultimately failed to impress Steam players, who returned to Windows 7.

Valve's latest statistics show that Windows 10 64-bit lost 17.14% of its gaming platform share, which is the largest drop ever for an operating system on Steam. At the same time, Windows 7 64-bit recorded an impressive 22.59% increase, making it the top gaming operating system again with 63.60%.

Third on the list comes Windows 8.1, followed by the 32-bit version of Microsoft's latest operating system with 0.37%.

It's worth noting that macOS still doesn't pose a threat to Windows, as Apple's operating system powers only 1.60% of systems used for gaming on Steam. The same goes for Linux, as the open-source platform runs on 0.35% of gaming machines.

So what caused such a big drop in Windows 10 on Steam? There could be many reasons for this sharp drop, and one of them turns out to be another substantial change observed in the case of the languages used in Steam games.

Specifically, last month the English language lost its top spot, falling to 21.24%, with Chinese rising to 56.37% of computers running Valve's gaming software.

This could be a possible reason for the sudden surge in Windows 7, as Chinese users are likely to be using the 2009 desktop operating system, given the high piracy rate in the country. Combined with the departure of many users from Windows 10, this could have contributed to the significant decline in Microsoft despite the arrival of a major new version.
