Nokia releases the 3310 on 3G!

Don't worry kids, you will get your dose from the “Snake” — the resurrected Nokia 3310 is released in 3G.

Earlier this year, we were thrilled with the relaunch of the Nokia 3310 by Finnish startup HMD. Announcing a smaller, lighter, upgraded version of the classic 2000 phone at Mobile World Congress in February 2017, HMD “brought” the phone to 2G in May and June of this year.

The bad news for the thirsty, nostalgic types was that the phone was based on 2.5G connectivity, which requires 2G networks – which have been shut down in many countries, such as Singapore, New Zealand, the Netherlands and the USA.

Now, the 3310 is finally out on the legendary 3G, with Australia being the first country where it will be launched on October 16. Other countries such as Singapore, for example, will receive the phone later in the month.

Australia's telecommunications, including Telstra and Optus, have already shut down the 2G networks and Vodafone will close the country's last service on March 31, 2018. Singapore has already shut down its 2G networks in April of the current year.

“Our fans around the world wanted this virtual phone to support 3G”, said Juho Sarvikas, head of product at HMD Global.

The phone will be available in Australia from October 16, with a global rollout to follow. The 3310 3G model will come in four colors and cost €69.

The phone will feature a polarized color screen 2.4 inches, rear camera 2 megapixel and LED flash, storage 16 MB with a 32 GB MicroSD card. The phone has talk time up to 6.5 hours and standby duration 27 days.
