Microsoft releases PDF support for Office on Android

Microsoft has updated Office for Android with two new features after previously releasing them as part of the Office Insider program earlier this month.

The most significant change in the new version of Office is PDF support in Microsoft Word. Although it is mostly for document writing, Microsoft Word is able to handle a long list of file formats and starting with this version, it is also a PDF viewer. There are no editing options yet, but from now on you don't need a special app just for PDF files, because Word can open them.

Additionally, Microsoft Excel will also get an update that allows users to open files containing images, with the Redmond software giant saying that this is actually one of the most requested features on Android. Microsoft is working hard to get Office right for Android , and the company rolls out updates to its built-in productivity tools on a regular basis.

According to information listed on the Google Play, Microsoft Word alone has recorded between 100 million and 500 million installs, which is impressive to say the least for a company whose original focus was Windows.

Microsoft itself, however, states that it is committed to investing in Android applications, explaining that this is part of its effort to make its services available to customers who do not necessarily have a Windows device.
