Alleged image of Xperia X 2017 shows thinner sides

Sony is still one of the top players in the smartphone market, but the company has been seeing the lowest sales in the mobile segment for several years now. However, this year's Xperia X series has made a big impression in the market, offering specifications based on consumer needs.

Now, Sony is gearing up for its launch later this year, and it looks like an image of the upcoming Xperia X has leaked online. GizmoChina has shown off an image that shows what kind of packaging the Xperia X 2017 will come in. The image shows the new Xperia X, but the smartphone may carry a different name after its launch.

At this point, the specifications of the upcoming Xperia X are fairly unknown, but since it's the successor to this year's models, it's expected to have much more advanced features.

Sony phones are known for having fairly thick bezels, but it looks like the company will be trying a new approach this year. The leaked image shows the upcoming Xperia X's slimmer sides, as well as smaller top and bottom bezels.

It's perfectly normal for the top bezel to be slightly larger, as it houses the Sony logo, as well as the front-facing camera and speaker. However, Sony could have made the bottom bezel smaller considering its phones typically have on-screen buttons and the fingerprint scanner is placed on the side. Perhaps Sony prefers symmetry over thin bezels for its phones.

Sony announced the Xperia X last year in February and made it available in Europe in early June. The smartphone came with a 5-inch HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, 3GB of RAM, and either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. It also had a powerful 23MP rear camera and a 23MP front camera, and a 2,620mAh battery.
