It appears that the Korean company is already involved in negotiations for a potential sale of its PC unit to Lenovo, with news reports stating that the two companies began talks earlier this year.
While the deal has not yet been reached, Samsung seems to be very adamant about its exit from the PC market, especially since the company has not been doing well in this segment for many years.
IBTimes writes, citing South Korean media, that the deal price is likely to be close to $850 million and could easily drop a bit if Lenovo plays its cards right, especially considering the company's sluggish performance in the PC segment over the past 12 months.
The sale of Samsung's PC unit is not surprising because the company has been losing ground to other companies that are constantly investing in this market. Although the PC market has collapsed in recent years, Lenovo continues to be the leading company, while Samsung simply could not keep up with the competition. Companies like Dell and HP continue to do well in the PC industry.
The company recently decided to abandon European markets and focus on the United States, but even here competition with Lenovo significantly affected its revenue.
As for Lenovo, the purchase of the PC unit will benefit the company, in particular, it will improve its market share in countries where Samsung continues to sell devices.
