IT Security Professional or how to solve your financial problem!

IT security professional

Are you an IT graduate looking for a secure job? Are you interested in doing more than just writing code from sunrise to sunset? Then you have no reason to delay any longer… the future (and present) is information systems security!

There are many IT graduates who turn to the field of information systems and infrastructure security with the ultimate goal of not only engaging in a diverse and rapidly changing industry, keeping the interest of anyone involved in the subject undiminished, but also the ever-increasing demand for security researchers and IT security professionals from the modern market, which promises better salary positions compared to a simple IT employee. And of course, it's very cool to say "I make my living hacking systems!"

There are several paths that someone can follow to become a successful IT Security Professional or professional Hacker. Following a postgraduate study program is a solution that gives a solid foundation to someone who wants to follow this career path. Fortunately, no longer does one need to go abroad and get lost in an English or American university because there are, although few, strong study programs in Greek universities such as that of the University of Piraeus. Of course, in order for someone to reach the point of following such a postgraduate program, it is good to have at least an initial foundation.

Another very good solution is information systems security certifications. There are currently several security certifications related to the management and security of information systems, but they do not have the same weight and the same direction. In other words, if a company is looking for a good penetration tester, they will be interested in seeing the Offensive Security Certified Professional certification known as OSCP , or if it is a position that has to do with consulting on standardization issues in the security sector, then it would be good for each candidate to be certified according to ISO 27001 Lead Auditor. Of course, there are many certifications from different organizations, but it is worth noting the following in addition to those already mentioned:

  • CompTIA Security+
  • CEH: Certified Ethical Hacker
  • GSEC: SANS GIAC Security Essentials
  • CISSP: Certified Information Systems Security Professional
  • CISM: Certified Information Security Manager

Finally, it should be emphasized that NO certification, degree, or postgraduate degree can compare to real experience in the field and the constant need of the true IT Security Professional to monitor and be informed of all developments in the field. The true ethical hacker is nurtured by the germ of searching for security gaps in information infrastructures, with the ultimate goal of making systems safe from malicious users.
