Warning: Hacked the Opera Sync service of Opera

Are you using Opera browser with Opera Sync? Change your password immediately. The company has started resetting passwords for users of the Opera Sync service. It is the feature used to synchronize passwords, settings, and browsing data across different devices and installations of Opera.

In a post on Opera's blog, the company says that the server used by Opera Sync was compromised earlier this week.Opera Sync

The company says an unknown attacker has gained access to its Opera Sync systems and fears that some of its users' data has been exposed. So it has started resetting all passwords.

The incident is of major importance due to the nature of the data stored on the system. If an attacker gains access to a user's account, they would be able to access all of the victim's usernames and passwords for other services, their browsing history, bookmarks, and more.

If the user allowed Opera Sync to synchronize their passwords across other devices, this means that all their passwords are available on Opera's servers.

The company said that all passwords for Opera Sync are hashed and salted, and the stored passwords from each user's accounts are encrypted.

If you use this particular browser, with the Opera Sync feature you should change all the passwords you use on the web... so you can be sure that your accounts are secure.
