Yes, iOS 10 is coming: Apple just announced the next version of iOS today at WWDC 2016, giving developers attending the conference a taste of what's coming to iPhone and iPad devices.
“We’ve reached a major milestone,” Apple said, adding that “iOS 10 is the biggest iOS release ever for our users,” as it comes with 10 big new features.
The new iOS 10 comes with a redesigned lock screen with rich notifications and makes full use of the 3D Touch technology available on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and will most likely be available on the upcoming iPhone 7.
iOS 10 will allow the iPhone to "wake up" when you pick up the device from your desk, so you no longer need to press the home button.
It brings rich notifications, which will allow you to interact with apps, so you can, for example, reply to an iMessage directly from the lock screen. 3D Touch can now be used to dismiss all notifications with one gesture. Control Center has been redesigned from the ground up.
On the lock screen now, if you swipe up from the right, the camera will launch, and if you swipe to the left, widgets will appear that allow you to see the weather, news, appointments, and more.
Siri has also improved, with Apple reporting that it has 2 billion requests per week. Siri is being opened up to developers, so users will be able to ask it to send chat messages from various apps, thanks to third-party API integration.
