EMIEW3, Hitachi's robotic salesman for the whole world

EMIEW3: The new customer service robots of Hitachi are coming to help you with your shopping in various stores.

As it appears, it's only a matter of time before the friendly faces of the salespeople behind the counter are replaced by robots that will take over their duties. The twenty-first century is here….

Last week in Tokyo, Hitachi unveiled a new humanoid robot, the EMIEW3, which aims to automate customer service in stores, public facilities and services.

The Hitachi robot is 90 centimeters tall (the size of a small child), it can reach 3.7 miles per hour to keep pace with customers who have a brisk walk.

It can detect customers' entry into the store and who need assistance during shopping, thanks to its ability to recognize human motion and the surrounding environment.

EMIEW3 can also isolate people's voices from background noise to understand better, and can communicate in many languages.

In addition to the online cameras it has for eyes, the bot is connected to a cloud AI software that allows it to learn new behaviors and share information with other EMIEW3s.

Additionally, the robots can “walk” on uneven floors that have height differences of up to 15mm, and they slow down when they reach corners.
