Chrome 49: Google has released version 49 of its Chrome browser, which fixes 26 security issues. Of these 26 bugs, 11 are rated as high-severity vulnerabilities, 10 are rated as medium-severity, one is rated as low-severity, and two bugs were not rated at all. As you can see, there are no critical bugs, which is the highest level of risk in Chrome's internal security bug rating system.
Google revealed that it has awarded $36,500 in bounties for the discovery of 13 bugs reported by independent security researchers. It also awarded another $14,500 in bounties to researchers who helped the company fix bugs in the non-stable release channels.
Some of the issues fixed in Chrome 49 are two same-origin bypasses (in Chrome's Blink engine and the Pepper Plugin), three use-after-free bugs also in Blink, and many more.
As for the improvements in the new version, Google Chrome 49 brings smooth mouse scrolling to all major desktop operating systems. Users of the browser can also enable a data-saving feature that tells websites, before they connect, to load a lighter version, if available.
