Stremio is an application developed with Electron that can stream movies, TV shows, YouTube channels, and TV channels from torrents. Does the idea sound familiar?
Of course it reminds you of Popcorn Time, and it seems there are many other developers out there who envied its glory.
It is important to note that using the Stremio app is illegal in some countries, yes and no in others, while in a few it is completely legal. Torrent streaming services usually don't go down well with the entertainment industry, and the same will probably happen with the Stremio app, sooner or later.
Until then: Just like Popcorn Time, Stremio can be installed on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, please.
The application automatically downloads subtitles and can display the content on AppleTV, Chromecast, Smart TV (via DLNA), and mobile devices.
The app is not open source, but it is free. The source code is not available, but there is already a GitHub entry that is used only for add-ons. Yes, the app will use add-ons too!
The new Stremio app seems to be working very well, it remains to be seen how long it will last..
