Denuvo: when cracked games work better than regular ones

Denuvo: One of the biggest arguments against video game protection applications (also known as DRM from digital rights management) is that game users experience very low performance in loading times.

One of the most "successful" companies in the DRM industry, Denuvo has long stated that its tools do not cause such issues.Denuvo

This week, however, Overlord Gaming, a YouTube channel, confirmed that the company was lying. How? The channel used cracked games with Denuvo protection and compared the results.
The differences in performance ranged from marginal to noticeable. However, in all cases, Overlord Gaming confirms a general trend of Denuvo software side effects in two main categories: loading times and frame time complications.

When the cracks were released, the owners of Overlord Gaming were able to remove Denuvo DRM from their games. Before that, they had found frame time spikes of 100, 200, and 400 milliseconds in every game that contained Denuvo protection. These all disappeared in every cracked version of the games they tested.

In all six games they tested, loading times were anywhere from 50 to 80 percent longer in games with Denuvo protection.
The games tested in Overlord Gaming's Tuesday video were: Dishonored, Dishonored 2: Death of the Outsider, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, Motoracer 4, and Rime.

The last game on this list has already caused a stir due to poor performance on PCs. This particular game was the reason for Overlord Gaming's tests.

Years after the emergence and establishment of Denuvo protection as the most popular DRM option among PC game developers, all the news that is circulating proves the opposite. Denuvo: when cracked games work better than regular ones

Initially, Denuvo's tools may have given an illusion of protection (for a while, because then they broke it) but in the end, developers will have to decide:

Easy-to-use games that don't suck up all the system resources, or locked "safe" games that aren't broken by pirates? A utopia, in other words, because what is locked is unlocked.
