Samsung to manufacture Apple's upcoming A9 chips

Like every year around this time, Apple is developing new iPhone models that are expected to hit the market later this year. Rumors are already flying, suggesting that the company will release two or three iPhones in the S series this year, but it's probably too early to believe rumors. In addition to how many devices Apple will release, today we saw publications related to the manufacturer that will take over the A9 chip, which will power the upcoming iPhone models (and possibly the new iPads). Rumors claim that TSMC, Samsung, and Globalfoundries are competing to build the new chip.

But, according to a recent report from Bloomberg, it appears that Samsung has managed to strike a deal with Apple for its upcoming chips.Apple A9p

Sources familiar with the matter claim that Samsung has won the orders for the A9 chips that will run in the next iPhone from Apple (whether it is the iPhone 6s or 7), and some of the orders are to be manufactured by GlobalFoundaries, which is a partner of Samsung.

The Bloomberg publication also notes the claim that Samsung has already manufactured the Exynos Octa 7420 SoC processors using a 14nm process, so there would be no problem manufacturing the A9 chip with the same technique. This would bring a much more efficient chip to market, as today's A8 chips run on a 20nm process.

Samsung will manufacture the next-generation chips for Apple at the Giheung factory in South Korea, but we do not know when mass production will start.

However, we will probably have more news soon as Apple usually announces the new iPhone models sometime around September.
