If you're Google, you have the freedom to buy whatever you want, no matter how much it costs. Today, the company is buying the top domain .app.
Business Insider reports that the search company won the auction held by ICANN (the agency that controls Internet domains) for the .app top-level domain (TLD). So Google has the domains soy, .minna, .foo and .how (see iguru.how).
The company has no immediate plans for the .app domain, but it's easy to see why it bought it. The company spent $25 million on the domain.
