Great news for Windows Phone fans , Microsoft has just announced that the first update for its recent Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview operating system is now available for download.
The unveiling took place in early April during Microsoft's developer conference, BUILD 2014, and the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview was released within two weeks of its official announcement to a limited number of users.
The Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview version is aimed at those who wish to make their applications compatible with the new operating system or create new ones.
Only users who own an App Studio account can theoretically download this Developer Preview build, but it's very easy to sign up for an account, so basically anyone who wanted to try out some of the new features included in the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview was able to do so.
Although the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview brought significant improvements and a wealth of new features, early adopters found that some apps didn't work as they should, while others weren't yet available for this platform.
So it seems that some of the bugs detected in the first Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview have been addressed with this update.
This information was confirmed by Microsoft's Joe Belfiore, who stated that the first update for Windows Phone Preview 8.1 Developer is now available for download. If your phone has failed to show the new update so far, you may need to go to Settings / Phone / Check for updates. When it manages to download it, your operating system will report version 8.10.12382.878.
According to Belfiore , the first Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview aims to squash some of the bugs found by Microsoft engineers and early applications. Beyond that, Microsoft has officially confirmed that this update brings some much-needed battery improvements that will allow users to take advantage of the smartphone's capabilities for a much longer period of time.
