US President Barack Obama once again defended the NSA surveillance programs during a visit to Sweden. Obama , who was in Sweden, was asked by a local journalist about the NSA surveillance programs .
“I can assure the public in Europe and around the world that we are not intercepting their emails and we are not listening to their phone calls,” said Obama. “We are targeting very specific areas that concern us.”
Under these circumstances, the question arises: what are the areas of concern to the US? Initially, the president stated that the NSA was to prevent and detect terrorist attacks.
However, over the past three months, it has been revealed that the NSA has not only been looking for terrorists, but has been collecting data from millions of Internet users around the world. It also monitors EU diplomatic missions and about 80 foreign embassies, as well as several South American countries.
Just last weekend, it was reported that the NSA had been spying on the presidents of Brazil and Mexico.
