Mozilla has begun a partnership with Taiwanese company Hon Hai Precision Industry – or better known as Foxconn , yes you read that right – to build a new device that will run Firefox OS.
Mozilla confirmed the new partnership to Reuters, and while the company didn't say anything specific about the exact nature of the device, which is believed to be a tablet, Mozilla is expected to unveil its plans at Focus Taiwan on June 3.
Mozilla has already signed partnerships with Alcatel (TCL), Huawei, ZTE and LG to build smartphones with Firefox OS, and this is its first move into tablets.
Foxconn, which gets most of its revenue from Apple, is reportedly looking to diversify its customer base. It already makes Android devices and is now experimenting with Firefox OS.
Firefox OS is an operating system that currently claims the fourth or fifth place in the smartphone world. New platforms – such as Ubuntu Touch and Tizen – are mainly aimed at emerging markets and first-time smartphone buyers, Mashable.
