Apple is cooking up something in the fingerprint sensor department

iPhone-6-White

What could make the next iPhone truly impressive? A question we've all been asking. A lighter body, a better camera, and iOS 7 won't help much.

Software is constantly evolving, and Apple has managed to create the best software experience for mobile devices. Unfortunately, software alone is not exciting enough. You need new hardware. And it seems that Apple is preparing to introduce something new in this area as well.

A recent job posting on Apple's official website is looking for a software engineer to work at the Melbourne Design Center. The building also happens to be home to AuthenTec, the company Apple recently acquired for $356 million that specializes in fingerprint sensors. The candidate's skills will include writing low-level code to configure and control hardware, according to Apple.

Several analysts predict that the iPhone 5S will have a fingerprint sensor under the Home Button, and that the user will use it to unlock the device and perhaps confirm some transactions, such as purchasing an app. However, Apple has not owned AuthenTec for long, so it is a bit difficult to believe that they will be able to release a device that will use its technology this year. But who knows? Maybe it will not come to i-devices at all and we will see it on a Mac.
