NASA scientists announced that they have discovered an ancient underground lake on Mars, inside the huge McLaughlin crater .
This new information about the red planet emerged after analyzing data from the spectrograph on the MRO (Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter) satellite orbiting Mars.
McLaughlin Crater is 91.7 km in diameter and 2.25 km deep, and is located on the lower level of a slope hundreds of kilometers long on the western side of the Arabia Terra region.
According to scientists, small channels that start inside the crater end at a level 500 meters above the bottom, which could mark the surface of a lake.
In addition, the spectrograph detected carbonates as well as dried clay, materials that form due to the presence of water.
