Warning! Microsoft Security Essentials is not a security solution

The Microsoft Security Essentials anti-virus suite is one of three security products that failed to receive AV-Test certification in December 2012, after managing to score 10 points and the maximum score was 18.

To receive the certification, anti-virus products must have a score of at least 11 points in the tests conducted. In addition to Microsoft Security Essentials, the other two products that failed the test are AhnLab and PC Tools Internet Security, with final scores of 8.5 and 10 points, respectively.

Security Essentials only received a score of 1.5 out of 6 for the protection it provides to its users. Microsoft's software detected only 78% of the malware tested.

Microsoft Security Essentials excels in usability, scoring 5.5 out of 6.

So Microsoft offers us a very easy-to-use but ineffective software.

If you're wondering which software passed the test, Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 took first place once again with 16.5 points, followed by Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Norton Anti-Virus, each with 16 points.
